Since 1986, the Perth Mint has been minting a wide variety of bullion coins that have garnered significant attention worldwide. The “Australia Kangaroo” (known as the “Australia Nugget” prior to 2008) is a striking tribute to Australia’s most famous animal. As legal tender in Australia, each coin is carefully struck by the Perth Mint from 999.9/1,000 pure gold.
The reverse of the coin features two kangaroos. One large kangaroo lies on its side, basking in the warm sunlight amid arid terrain. The other stands upright, ready to leap forward. It is depicted in its natural habitat alongside a native Xanthorrhoea australis, also known as the grass tree. The coin’s design includes the inscription “KANGAROO,” the Perth Mint’s traditional “P” mint mark, the year 2026, and the coin’s weight and fineness.
The reverse of the 1 oz gold coins features a security feature in the form of a letter micro-laser-engraved into the design. It is visible only under a magnifying glass.
The obverse features the portrait of His Majesty King Charles III, designed by Dan Thorne, along with the face value.
