Switzerland 100 Franc Vreneli

Only 5,000 of the 1925 100-franc gold Vreneli were minted in accordance with the specifications of the Latin Monetary Union. This week, we are offering coins in ss condition at corresponding prices.

The name “Vreneli” is the diminutive form of the traditional Swiss first name Verena. It refers to the female figure depicted by Fritz Ulisse Landry, which came under heavy criticism at the time because it was considered “too young and unworthy” to represent Switzerland.

Obverse: HELVETIA; against a mountain backdrop, a female bust facing left, her abundant hair tied back in a braided plait, her dress adorned with edelweiss blossoms. At the bottom right of the edge, the artist’s name: F. LANDRY, surrounded by a beaded circle

Reverse: In the center: 100 – FR. and the year 1925. At the top edge, the Swiss cross with a halo. At the bottom edge, the mint mark B (Bern), surrounded by a circle of pearls
