The zodiac signs of the Chinese lunar calendar served as the inspiration for the designs of the Lunar Series from the Perth Mint in Australia. Despite the annually changing designs—including the Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Snake, and Rat—these gold coins are sought after not only by collectors. Their moderate premium makes them particularly popular investment coins worldwide.
The mintage of the 1-ounce Lunar III Snake gold coin is 30,000. Due to the limited mintage of the 1-ounce gold coin, it is highly sought after and will certainly sell out quickly. Carefully struck from 999.99/1,000 fine gold, the coins are issued as legal tender in accordance with the Australian Currency Act 1965.
This coin is the first Lunar III coin to feature the portrait of King Charles III on the obverse, designed by Dan Thorne, along with the weight, fineness, and face value. The reverse depicts a snake winding its way through bamboo stalks. The design includes the Chinese character for “snake,” the inscription “SNAKE 2025,” and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.
The coin comes in a coin capsule.
