The Double Eagle was first issued as an official means of payment in 1849. The St. Gaudens Double Eagle (named after the designer Augustus Saint-Gaudens), with the motif of Lady Liberty on the image side and the flying bald eagle, was minted from 1907 to 1933. The Great Depression at the start of the 1930s and the resulting gold ban imposed by US President Roosevelt (executive order 6102) meant the end for the Double Eagle. The last years from 1927 onwards are very rare and coveted by collectors. Condition: standard bank condition The images are representative of the coin type. We deliver years or motif variants subject to availability. There is no entitlement to delivery of a particular year. The coins are in standard bank condition and show signs of wear due to the frequency of handling. Deviations of approximately 0,1 grams from the specified fine weight are therefore within the tolerance range.
