1/4 oz Philharmonic gold coin
- Description
Item no.: 120305/01
Europe's best-known gold bullion coin comes from Vienna. Münze Österreich AG has been producing the "Vienna Philharmonic" since 1989 on behalf of the Austrian government. At times it was even listed by the World Gold Council as the best-selling coin in the world. It is highly valued not only in Europe but also in North America and Japan. Until 2001 the face value was 500 schillings; since 2002 it has been 25 euros.
The coins owe their name to the renowned top-class Austrian orchestra, the Vienna Philharmonic. The obverse of the gold coin shows the imposing organ of the Vienna Musikverein. Engraved on it are the weight of 1/4 ounce, the fineness of 999,9, the minting year and the face value. Above it appears the inscription "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH". The reverse shows musical instruments of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The motif is accompanied along the upper edge by the name of the orchestra, "WIENER PHILHARMONIKER".
The illustrations are representative of the coin type. We deliver year issues or motif variants subject to availability. There is no entitlement to delivery of a particular year issue.
