Lady Liberty with the torch of freedom and the proud American eagle give this gold coin its characteristic face. The Gold Eagle was first minted in 1986. The year dates of the Gold Eagles were initially minted in Roman numerals and only from 1992 onwards in Arabic numerals. Like all investment coins, the Gold Eagles are theoretically official legal tender in the issuing country. However, the gold value exceeds the imprinted denomination many times over.
